On May 10, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the whole country will be placed under the movement control order (MCO) from May 12 to June 7 due to rising Covid-19 cases.
“With daily cases exceeding 4,000 and active cases at 37,396 as well as 1,700 deaths reported as of May 10, Malaysia is facing a third Covid-19 wave that could trigger a national crisis,” he said.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also say that cited the detection of new Covid-19 variants in the country, the dwindling capacity of the national healthcare system, and poor compliance with standard operating procedures as the reasons for what he called the “drastic decision”.
This is also the first time the government has enforced an MCO for a four-week period as previously these had been issued for up to two weeks at a time.

Here Some of the SOPs for this nationwide MCO includes:

ALL educational institutions are to be closed down. Exceptions will be given for students sitting for international exams
Kindergartens and nurseries are allowed to operate following strict SOPs.
Only THREE people are allowed in a car including the driver, this goes for e-hailing and taxi services as well.
